How to Use Cat Gatekeeper on YouTube, X, and Reddit
A practical setup guide for Cat Gatekeeper on YouTube, X, Reddit, and other social tabs where a short break becomes an hour.
Start with the official Chrome extension
Install Cat Gatekeeper from the Chrome Web Store, then pin the extension icon near the address bar. That makes the Cat Gatekeeper extension menu easy to open when you want to change sites, timing, or a current break.
This setup is for the Cat Gatekeeper Chrome extension. Firefox, iPhone, Android, and mobile browser versions do not use the same install path.
To use Cat Gatekeeper for YouTube, Cat Gatekeeper for X, or Cat Gatekeeper Reddit breaks, install the Chrome extension first, then enable only the sites that actually waste your time.
Choose the sites that catch you most often
Cat Gatekeeper works best when you apply it to the places where time disappears quietly. For many people, that is YouTube, X, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Threads, Facebook, or Bluesky.
The point is not to block the entire internet. The point is to stop the familiar chain: open a tab, scroll once, scroll again, and then realize the break is gone.
Set a limit you will actually notice
If the limit is too long, Cat Gatekeeper arrives after the damage is already done. If it is too short, you may disable it before it becomes useful. Start with a limit that catches the first drift into autopilot.
Then set a break length that feels real. The cat overlay should give your attention enough time to reset before the page returns.
Test it quickly
If you are not sure Cat Gatekeeper is working, set the timer to one minute and open a supported site as the active tab. When the countdown appears with the cat overlay, you know the basic flow is working.
If nothing happens, check whether the extension is enabled, whether the site is selected, and whether another blocker extension is interfering with the page.
Let the cat do the awkward part
Once Cat Gatekeeper appears, do not treat the countdown as a challenge. Let the interruption do its job. Stand up, look away, refill water, or decide whether the tab still deserves your time.
That is why the cat overlay matters: it makes the decision visible before the next scroll happens.
